Telescope Alignment Errors

چکیده
1. ABSTRACT In this technical report we show how the insufficient precision of the previous telescope alignment procedure could be the cause of the observed astigmatism. A better alignment procedure is needed in order to achieve the specified wavefront quality. We propose a new procedure using more precise equipment.

Optical misalignment sensing and image reconstruction using phase diversity
A segmented-aperture telescope such as the Multiple-Mirror Telescope will suffer from phase errors unless the segments are aligned to within a small fraction of a wavelength. Such a coherent alignment of the segments is difficult to achieve in real time. An alternative is to record the images degraded by phase errors and to restore them after detection by using phase-retrieval techniques. In th...
متن کاملEffect of telescope alignment on a stellar interferometer.
For a ground-based stellar interferometer, we investigate the effect of wave-front distortions that are due to telescope alignment errors and other factors. We apply the results to the IR/Optical Telescope Array (IOTA) interferometer. We present the computational method used in our simulation program to calculate explicitly the wave-front shape from an arbitrarily misaligned telescope. We calcu...
متن کاملAlignment induced aberration fields of next generation telescopes
There is a long list of new ground-based optical telescopes being considered around the world. While many are conventional Cassegrain and Ritchey-Chretien designs, some are from a family of three mirror anastigmatic (TMA) telescopes that are configured with an offset field (but still obscured) that trace back to designs developed in the 1970s for military applications. The nodal theory of aberr...
متن کاملAnalysis of active alignment control of the Hobby-Eberly Telescope Wide Field Corrector using Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensors
One of the key aspects of the Wide-Field Upgrade (WFU) for the 10m Hobby-Eberly Telescope (HET) is the use of wavefront sensing (WFS) to close the loop of active alignment control of the new four-mirror Wide-Field Corrector (WFC), as it tracks sidereal motion, with respect to the fixed spherical segmented primary mirror. This makes the telescope pupil dynamically change in shape. This is a uniq...
متن کاملOptimizing wide-field coded aperture imaging: radial mask holes and scanning
Imaging at hard X-ray energies (~10-600 keV) over very large fields of view (~60 per telescope) is required to conduct a high sensitivity all-sky and all-time survey for black holes. The proposed Energetic X-ray Imaging Survey Telescope (EXIST) could achieve the high sensitivity required for the mission science objectives by scanning an array of wide-field coded aperture telescopes with apertur...
